Rafting along the Pai River
Is
an exciting and delightful recreation. Mae
Pai itself is the longest river of Mae Hong Son originating from
mountain ranges in Laos which flows through Pai district of the province
and eventually joins the Sa La Win river in Myanmar, a total distance of
180 kilometers. With an
average depth of some 7 meters, the river bed is mainly pebbled.
There are several sectors eminently suitable for rafting past
rapids and natural sceneries including beautiful waterfalls.
The best time for rafting is from October to March.
Rafting
on the river at Pangmapha
Rafting
offers you another kind of adventure. Rafting on the Lang River will let
you experience the beauty of Lod Cave by traversing from one side of the
cave to the other, passing by stalactites and stalagmites in the cave.
This trip on the Lang River takes around 3 hours.
The Khong River is Mae Hong Son's main river, as its
source springs from the area on the border between Thailand and Burma.
It flows past Pang Ma Pha to the south, joining the Pai River. To raft
on the Khong River you can start about 1 kilometer from the center of
Mae Hong Son or 1 kilometer from Pang Ma Pha. Rafting on the Khong River
involves camping overnight in the jungle because it takes around 3 days
to complete the trip. Along the way you will see Su Sa waterfall and
other places of great natural beauty. You can make enquiries about
rafting in both Pang Ma Pha.
